Fine Art Prints for Sale in Cebu City Hotels

April 4th, 2009

I have begun selling some of my fine art prints in local Cebu City hotels this past week. We put up a nice display yesterday in the Lobby Shop at the Marco Polo Plaza and have plans for a display in the Shangri-La and Marriott by the end of April. We thought it would be a good idea to offer images of Cebu Island to visitors as an alternative gift/memorabilia. These are the first matted fine art prints available to visitors in Cebu City and we are hopeful they will do well. I have started out with about 20 different images, trying to represent different aspects of Cebu. Food, people, culture, and landmarks. I plan to add different images as time passes and of course I’m always looking to shoot new pictures. There should be a press release at some point after the displays are up in the other two hotels.

If you’re from Cebu or are planning a trip here, please take some time to have a look at the images. You can always order direct from me as well to save a little if your in the area (the prices are lower than on my stock photography site and hotel rates). I have posted the details below.

Information about Fine Art Prints

These ready to frame signed and matted fine art prints are printed on professional Kodak Supra Endura archival paper lasting 100 years in home displays and 200 years in dark storage. Professionally cut Tru-White Standard Core Mattes are acid-free complete with archival polypropolene bags. A perfect lasting memory from Cebu.

Article in Cebu Daily News

There was an article written in the Cebu Daily News last December about a recent publication I had. I thought I would share it with everyone. The original article can be found here. The image the article is referring to can be seen here.

Malapascua kids land on Nat Geo

CEBU CITY, Philippines – It seems National Geographic can’t get enough of Malapascua island.

In its November-December 2008 issue, Malapascua is bannered in the National Geographic Traveler magazine’s Travel Talk section where readers contribute their favorite travel photos and the stories behind them.

The gold-washed photo, part of a series of silhouette shots was taken by Jacob Maentz, a professional photographer and a diver.

It shows two kids playing on an anchor rope with nearby Dakit-Dakit Island as backdrop.

“The sun was setting on a January evening and I was watching one of the many bancas unload its cargo onshore,” said Maentz, who was on a dive trip to Malapascua when the photo was taken.

“I was searching for a subject to shoot in the late evening sun when I noticed some children playing in the water on the other end of the boat.”

Maentz decided to wade out into the water so he could be closer to his subjects: a group of eight boys and girls jumping off the boat using the anchor rope to climb back up.

This is not the first time Malapascua is featured in National Geographic.

In 2006, the “Your Vision No Limits TV vignette” was produced by and aired over National Geographic Channel (NGC) Asia for Hewlett-Packard’s professional photo printer.

It featured Tim Laman, resident photographer for National Geographic, on an underwater photo assignment.

The 36-seconder ad ran in June for about seven weeks and was part of the sponsorship package that Hewlett-Packard bought from National Geographic channel.

The channel is aired in over 290 million homes in 164 countries and 27 languages.

Although the advertisement does not mention Cebu, it has the word “Malapascua, Philippines” in the opening subtitle.

What follows is a series of beautifully photographed images of Malapascua’s multi-colored underwater life – alternate flashes of still and video shots of a red and yellow pipe fish, a green, blue and orange tropical fish; a shrimp resting on a bed of soft yellow coral, a blue starfish, lush pink reefs, an orange and black sea slug; and the famed thresher shark the island is known for.

Malapascua, off the northern part of Cebu, is one of the few places in the world where there are guaranteed thresher shark encounters, the reason why Maentz came to dive.

In the process, he captured the Filipinos’ joie de vivre in his photo.

“This particular image is one of my favorites because I see the true spirit and joy of Philippine children,” he said.

National Geographic Traveler is one of five magazines published by the National Geographic Society in the United States, in addition to its flagship publication, the National Geographic.

It was started in 1984 and is published in six languages other than English.

Travel and Update

September 29th, 2008

I have not wrote a blog entry in over a month now and I thought it was time too once again. I have been on the road with my family for the past couple of months and haven’t found the time to write an entry. We have been traveling visiting family and friends around the US before heading back to Cebu City, Philippines at the end of October. Right now we are visiting my wife’s family in the Bay area.

We have had a wonderful time seeing family and friends we haven’t seen in a very long time. It feels just like old times when we all get together. I have also tried to squeeze in some picture taking during our trip, although it’s quite a challenge when you have a pregnant wife and a very active 11 month-year-old son. I have posted my images from Tennessee, the Outer Banks, and Colorado in the Stock Gallery if you are interested in viewing them. Also check out the Landscapes & Seascape gallery, because there are some new ones in there too. I am excited to return to the Philippines where I can start focusing more of my energy on creating excellent imagery once again.

What else is new? Well…we have had a graphic designer make a new logo for the website and business. I am really excited about the new look and I think the design fits really well with the current website.

We have also adjusted our prices for fine art prints and licensing while providing more options. Customers can now order fine art prints and have them professionally matted and framed by us. The result is a beautiful piece of artwork that is ready to hang on your wall. We now offer three different types of black frames for your fine art prints and they all look great.

As our stock gallery grows we are trying to make it easier for you to search for images. We are working on making it easier for viewers to browse by location/place as well as by category. We should have this function up soon. Thanks for checking back and seeing what’s new with us. We hope you will continue to return and see what new images we have.

Joe McNally youtube video

June 3rd, 2008

When I checked my email this morning I had mail from someone in my camera club with a link to a Joe McNally youtube video. I took a look thinking it would only be a few minutes long. Come to find out an hour later I was still watching this and I couldn’t pull myself away. This is a great lecture/talk from one of the most accomplished photographers in the past 30 years. If you have an hour to watch this video and I’m sure you will take something away from it.
